Things We Believe About Work and Living Well

Living well is rarely complicated. It asks for attention, follow-through and enough sense to know when the workday has taken all it should.

These are practical principles that fit the way we see life at Southern Stoner®.

Do the Work in Front of You

There is pride in showing up and doing a job right. It might be paid work, a repair that has waited too long, getting the boat ready, cooking for a full table or helping somebody who needs another set of hands.

Most good lives are built from ordinary days handled well.

Make Time for the People Who Matter

Work can fill every hour you give it. At some point, you have to decide the day is done.

Sit down. Share a meal. Call the person you have been meaning to call. Listen without checking the time. A lot of what matters happens while people are talking around a table or settling in on the porch.

Take Care of What Carries You

Maintain the truck. Clean the fishing gear. Put the tools back where they belong. Feed the dog before you feed yourself if that is the order of the house.

Looking after the things that carry you through the week is part of living well.

Leave Some Room in the Day

Get near the water. Take the long way home. Watch the light change. Let the evening be quiet.

Responsibility matters, and so does recognizing when you have done enough for one day.

Keep It Plain

Say what you mean. Buy what you will use. Wear what feels like you. A good shirt, a dependable friend and a place to sit can hold more value than plenty of things people spend years chasing.

Keep What Works

Good principles prove themselves in daily life. Keep the ones that help you take care of your responsibilities and your people. Let the rest go.
