Slow Sunday: Before Monday Comes Calling

Slow Sunday: Before Monday Comes Calling

Slow Sunday: Before Monday Comes Calling

There’s something different about a Sunday in the South.

Saturday might be for the river, the boat, a cookout, getting something done around the house, or staying out later than you planned. But Sunday has its own pace.

It’s the day you look around and realize the weekend went by way too damn fast.

Around here, Sunday isn’t about trying to squeeze every last drop out of the weekend. It’s about slowing things down before Monday comes calling.

When the Work Is Done

Most of us don’t spend Monday through Friday sitting around waiting on the weekend.

We work.

There are early alarms, long days, bills to pay, grass that somehow needs cutting again, things that need fixing, people who need us, and a running list of stuff that never seems to get any shorter.

That’s exactly why the quiet parts of life matter.

A chair outside. Something cold to drink. Dinner cooking. The dog stretched out nearby. Maybe a little music playing. Maybe absolutely nothing playing.

No schedule. No place you have to be.

Just a few hours when nobody needs anything from you.

That’s a pretty damn good Sunday.

You Don't Have to Go Anywhere

Some of the best weekends aren’t the ones you spend running all over the place.

Sometimes the boat stays parked.

Sometimes the fishing poles never leave the garage.

Sometimes the big weekend plans turn into sitting outside with friends, firing up the grill, and wondering why you ever thought you needed to go somewhere in the first place.

We love a river day as much as anybody, but Southern living has never been about constantly chasing the next thing.

Sometimes it’s about appreciating where you already are.

The Sunday Reset

Eventually, reality starts creeping back in.

Work clothes need washing. Lunches need figuring out. The truck needs gas. Somebody remembers something they were supposed to do Friday.

Monday is coming whether we invite it or not.

But it doesn’t get Sunday until we’re finished with it.

So take the extra hour outside.

Watch the sun go down.

Call somebody you haven’t talked to in a while. Sit around the table a little longer. Put the phone down. Let the kids play. Throw the ball for the dog one more time.

Whatever your version of slowing down looks like, make some room for it.

Because the whole point of working hard is being able to enjoy the life you’re working for.

Back At It Tomorrow

Tomorrow the alarms start again.

The boots go back on. The coffee gets poured before anybody should reasonably be awake. We get back to work and start counting down toward another weekend.

But not yet.

Today is still Sunday.

And around here, we intend to enjoy it.

Work Hard. Live Easy. Stay Lifted.
